Citrus Springs is an unincorporated community in Citrus County, Florida, developed starting in the late 1960s on land that was previously planted with citrus groves. The neighborhood is almost entirely residential, made up of detached single-family homes on individual lots spread across a large, grid-like street layout. Most homes were built between the 1970s and the early 1990s, giving the community a settled, lived-in feel. Residents tend to be long-term owners, many of them retirees, with a significant share of households that have been in their homes for decades. There is minimal commercial development inside the community itself, so most daily errands run to Inverness or along US-41.
The surrounding Citrus County area is defined by its natural character: springs, rivers, and state forests surround the community on multiple sides. Rainbow Springs State Park is a short drive to the east, and the Rainbow River corridor connects Citrus Springs to the natural drainage system that shapes the region. Homeowners near the community edge sometimes deal with drainage concerns during wet season. The community has no municipal services of its own, so everything from road upkeep to permitting is managed at the county level. Nearby communities that share Citrus County services include Inverness, FL, the county seat to the south, and Crystal River, FL on the coast, both of which we also serve.
